Dementia Art

Following up a few emails and a short trip to an old peoples home I've been given the opportunity to paint one of their corridors. So to say the least I was all over it and asked Ed if he would like to help. Since then We've measured all the walls and Ed is in the process if making a computerised model of the area so we can reference the space when we aren't their. Thank god for computer nerds :) It's a pretty big job so it's gonna be at least a months worth of planning. I have dived right into it however and produced a list of ideas. Now the people on this floor are elderly people who suffer dementia. So the brain storming has revolved around iconic imagery and events around 1950 1960. I don't know how much you know about dementia but it causes a wide variety of mental illnesses and basically the sufferer slowly looses their mind. This means nearly all short term memory is gone but it's not uncommon for them to retain long term memory for quite a while. Hence the large amounts of fashion and car research I've been doing. To be honest I'm just overjoyed at the idea of been able to draw giant breakfast at Tiffany murals.

Creature of the night

So with less than 2 weeks till i specialize at college I'm wondering the streets
of my home with Ed at some obscene hour of the morning. I have no clue
if your photographeror proffesional of sorts. I am not. My parents have let me play with
their SLR's before but intill very recently I've not had the freedom of my own.

At college we got a standard photo introduction and it's surprising how
little I knew. A few simple twists and clicks and you can get way
past the auto pic button and find a whole new obbession blossom.
I end up in all sorts of positions: up tress hanging off walls crouching under
bushes. All in the name of finding a decent photo. Needless to say on
more than one occasion I've recieved less than friendly looks from passers
by. The best yet has to be the woman that paused for a moment as they
witnessed me dangling by arm and leg from a small tree before
reaching into their bag and producing acamera with
which they clicked away. I struggled with wether or not to respect
their taking the oppurtunity or get annoyed that I had made all the
effort while she reaps the benefits. You will be pleased to know
I did in the end get a great picture of a balding man as he
passed beneath me.

What makes the whole thing worse is that these photos have nothing to
do with college work. Then again no one all my art had to be college
related does it?

This one below, right here, yeah it's favourite of the night. Taken by messing with the shutter priority
and just walked forward over the bridge while it was taking the photo. Most of them
were taken this way.

The second one like this, further up is more intresting.
So go look at it again.

Him and Her

Just a quick intro so when I mention Lai Lai or Laisum you can think of this not at all staged photo of her
Not forgetting Edd, he is many things. Worships the likes of George Bridgman. If your not familiar with him he's what Edd refers to as '' The god of anatomy'' I'm currently learning from his books to keep my general drawing skills sharp. Well worth a look if you get the opportunity http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.156486107.jpg

College. 1:49pm. 40minutes till break.

Laisum is wittering, panicking about the ''crits'' we have tomorrow. To console her fear and guilt she has decided to stay after and make a start on the reading lists that we had issued to us 6weeks ago. I on the other hand have fully accepted that tomorrow will be the equivalent of being lined against a wall naked while fat children throw half eaten food and laugh. The exact purpose of the crit is one of those things I won't really understand fully until I'm too old and miserable to care. No doubt I will however be amazing and all this putting myself down is an attempt to avoid over confidence and the inevitable fall that follows. Oh well it's trying that counts, right?
